Special Olympics Area M offers training in 17 different Olympic-type sports. We train at various sites throughout Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry and Northern York Counties. Alpine Skiing

The clinics a primarily school based so any adult athlete that would be interested needs to contact Coach Kathy Charron at 717-697-8813 if interested. Ski training takes place at Ski Round Top and the State Level Competition takes place in late February in Johnstown, PA.

We have three different training sites for AQUATICS, The Hershey Recreation Center, West Shore YMCA and Shippensburg University. Aquatics training takes place between the months of November and May with the State competition in June at Penn State University. So come on out and swim some laps.
Athletics

All of the schools then compete in the local school meets at, East Pennsboro, Shippensburg University and other locations. All of this training is getting you ready for the Special Olympics Area M AREA GAMES that are held at Messiah College. We look forward to seeing you at that event. Adult athletes need to train as well, because they are also welcomed to participate at Area Games, and then again at Adult Games. Both Area Games and Adult Games are held in April. Basketball

There is a level of competition for every athlete. Our basketball program will start training as early as January and run through May with the State completion being held at Penn State University in June. Come on out to one of the four different sites at, Central Dauphin East High, Otterbein U.M. Church in Boiling Springs, Susquenita High School, or Newport High School.
Bocce

Currently, we have three training sites for bocce, The Hershey Italian Lodge, Koon’s Park in Linglestown and Carlisle's Village Park. Bocce trains from July until November with the State Competition being held at Villanova University in November. So throw the palina and get the game started.
Bowling

Training begins in November and ends with the State competition in March at Bald Eagle Elementary School in State College. If you are looking for action sport make sure you make it out to one of the three training sites, Susquenita High School, Otterbein U.M. Church, and Newport Family Life Center.
Golf

We hold training at both Range End Golf Club in Dillsburg and Sportsman Golf Club in Harrisburg. We try to start training in April depending on the weather and we train well into August. Golfers often attend events around the area and compete at invitationals in other counties The State competition for Golf is held in June at Penn State University.

Long Distance Running/Walking

You can run or walk a variety of distances, it is a great way to get in shape and stay there. We offer training at two sites, Adam Ricci Park in Enola and the Carlisle War College. We work hard so that we can go to the State competition at Villanova University in November.

Soccer 
Soccer training is held at Harrisburg Area Community College and we will also be hosting Soccer training at the MYO Park in Millersburg. [Read more...]
Soccer training is held from the end of July thru the beginning of November. State Level competition for soccer is held at Villanova University in November. We offer skills competition; 11v11, 5v5, and new 7v7 so get out there and kick the ball around.
Softball 
Softball practices is held in Carlisle at the Otterbein U.M. Church on Forge Road. Our softball program trains Traditional teams and Unified teams as well as skills. [Read more...]

Tennis

Volleyball

Unified Sports 
Unified Sports® is an initiative that combines approximately equal numbers of Special Olympics Athletes and athletes without intellectual disabilities (called Partners) on sports teams for training and competition. [Read more...]
Age and ability matching of athletes and partners is defined on a sport-by-sport basis. Special Olympics Area M offers competition in long distance running/walking, softball, speed skating, golf and volleyball. The concept of combining athletes with intellectual disabilities and those without was first introduced in the mid-1980s to provide another level of challenge for higher ability athletes and to promote equality and inclusion.
