Competitions Offered

Local Competitions Offered:
Competition is offered for all of the 17 sports that Area M offers. There are local, invitational, and state competitions in all of the sports listed above. For more information on any of these sports or competitions, contact the Area M office at 717-732-6756.
Alpine Ski Competition
Athletes attend the Ski Clinics that are offered and they are asked to return to the Competition. The ski competition has 150 athletes at all different levels of skiing. Our local Ski competition is held in January at Ski Round Top.
Local Track Meets
Each school district attends their very own track meet before attending Area Games in April. These smaller meets get the athletes ready for the big day. These Local School Meets give teachers and volunteers the opportunity to get times and distances for their athletes, to help in the divisioning for Area Games.
Area Games
Area Games are held at Messiah College every April. Both Aquatics and Athletics are offered to over 1,000 school aged and adult athletes from 26 different school districts throughout Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry and Northern York Counties. Area Games is a huge day with lots of community volunteers reaching out to all of the athletes in Area M for a terrific day of competition and fun.
Area M Bowling Competition
Every December Area M Host the local Bowling competition. The bowling competition is held at Trindle Bowling Lanes and with over 150 athletes, the competition is tough. Bowling training starts in September and as long as you bowl 15 games before the competition you are eligible to compete in the Local Tournament. The bowlers for the state competitions are selected from this local event.
Speed Skating Competition
Athletes attend the Speed Skating Clinics that are offered and they are asked to return to the Competition. The Speed Skating competition has 150 athletes at all different levels of skating. Our local Speed Skating competition is held in December at the Hershey Arena.
Invitationals Offered:
Invitationals are competition held by local programs where other counties and programs are invited to compete. Area M athletes attend many different invitational for various sports, but we also host a few invitationals right here in Area M:
Softball Invitational
We host our very own softball invitational every May. Area M invites several different counties to come and compete in Traditional, Unified and Individual Skills competition.
Gymnastics Invitational
Area M hosts a gymnastics invitational every May. Athletes are invited to compete in both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. It is a great day of competition.
Rollerskating Invitational
Area M hosts a rollerskating invitational every August. This is a great day of competition that is offered to our athletes and all of the other counties in Pennsylvania that offer Rollerskating.
Fall Classic
The Area M Fall Classic is a multi sport invitational. We offer competition in Bocce, LDR/LDW, Powerlifting, Soccer and Volleyball to 19 different counties. This invitational is held in Hershey the third Sunday in September every year. This invitational offers great competition to over 750 athletes.
State Competition:
Special Olympics PA offers State Level Competition 7 times a year. Some of the sports are qualifying sports and athletes must attend the sectional events in order to advance to State Games. All state level competition can advance an athlete or team onto National and or World Games competition. The competitions and the sports offered are listed below. Winter Games is held in February in Johnstown, PA. Competition for both Alpine Skiing and Ice Speed Skating.
State Floor Hockey Competition is held in March at the Bald Eagle Elementary School in State College. Competition is for Floor Hockey teams and individual skills.
Central Bowling Sectionals is held right here in our local bowling lanes. This competition is held every March. At the end of the competition names are pulled of the athletes that will advance to State games in June.
Central Spring Sectionals is held every April at St.Francis University. The sports that are offered at this competition are Aquatics, Athletics, Basketball, and Softball.
State Summer Games is held at Penn State University every June. Summer Games is three days of competition in Aquatics, Athletics, Basketball, Bowling, Golf, Gymnastics, Softball, and Tennis.
Central Fall Sectional is held every October at Juniata College in Huntington, PA. Competition is offered to Bocce, LDR/LDW, Powerlifting, Soccer, and Volleyball.
Fall Festival is held at Villanova University every November. The Fall Festival is the State competition for Bocce, LDR/LDW, Powerlifting, Rollerskating and Volleyball. Fall Festival is three competition packed days.
